Steep Atlas is a reference site. It doesn't run ads, sell products, or have a reason to build a profile on you. This policy explains what is collected, why, and what happens to it.

What is collected

Analytics

Steep Atlas uses Google Analytics 4, loaded via Google Tag Manager. When you visit the site, GA4 records anonymized information: which pages were viewed, how long was spent on them, approximate geographic region (country or city level), device type, and referral source. This data is aggregated — it tells me what content is useful, not who is reading it.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to distinguish sessions and recognize returning visitors. These cookies do not identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to the Steep Atlas newsletter, your email address is stored by Encharge, the email platform this site uses. Encharge's privacy policy governs how they handle that data. Your email is used for one purpose: sending you the newsletter. It is not sold, shared with third parties, or used for anything else.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter email.

Cloudflare

Steep Atlas is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes requests as they pass through its network and may set a session cookie (__cf_bm) for bot detection and security purposes. This is a technical infrastructure cookie, not a tracking cookie. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

What is not collected

No names, addresses, payment information, or account credentials — there are no accounts on this site. No individual-level tracking. No retargeting or advertising pixels. No data is sold to third parties, ever.

Third-party services

The site uses three external services: Google Analytics (analytics), Google Tag Manager (tag delivery), and Encharge (newsletter). Each has its own privacy policy. Steep Atlas does not control how these services handle data on their end beyond the configuration choices made here — anonymized analytics, no ad features enabled, newsletter-only email use.

Data retention

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted. Newsletter subscriber data is held by Encharge for as long as you remain subscribed. Unsubscribing removes your email from Encharge's active list.

Your rights

If you've subscribed to the newsletter and want your email deleted, unsubscribe via any newsletter email or contact [email protected] and it will be removed. For analytics data, because it is anonymized and not linked to an identity, there is no individual record to retrieve or delete.
